hair

The thin outer layer,or cuticle, of the hair has 5 to10 overlapping keratine scales arranged in a fashion similar to fish scales. Under the cuticle layer lies the cortex. This is a dense, tubular layer of keratin that provides strength and holds the granules and melanin or pigment. Heredity determines the color and diameter of our hair, and time and health factors may alter the initial recipe. A well balanced diet and exercise are necessary to maintaining healthy locks. The powdered leaves of henna are applied as a thick paste to clean and dry or towel-dried hair. If the henna is too watery, it will drip and stain your face and neck. If it is too dry, however, it will form tiny balls that fall everywhere, reserve extra warm water to add as the paste dries.

Put an old T-shirt and disposable rubber or plastic gloves. Place paper towels on the counter. Section your hair into 1-inch (25mm) parts. Using a brush or your fingers, apply henna paste to the roots of your hair. After all are covered, work the henna paste down and hair shaft.

Cover your hair with a shower cap and top of it with an old scarf and top with an old towel or scarf. Allow the henna to saturate your hair from anywhere from 2 to 24 hours (depending on the intensity of the color you want. Because henna is activated by heat, you can shorten the process by using an electric hair dryer for at least 30 minutes at a comfortable setting. Or, try sitting in the sun for 30m minutes!

After the allotted time, rinse the henna paste from your hair until the water runs clear.

Later in the same day, shampoo with an acidic pH shampoo. Towel-dry, then massage a small amount of coconut oil into your hair. Cover your hair with an old shower cap and leave the oil for at least one hour, then rinse.

Rose Bryne: bad hair cut

Yesterday Rose Bryne arrived at the Melbourne premiere of 'Surviving Georgia' and I was left wondering... how on earth will she survive this hairstyle?! What the f has happened here?! She's gone from lovely ombred hair...... to this. Somewhere Paul McCartney is dying for ever having made the bowl cut 'fashionable'.

Amanda hair-

So yesterday Amanda Seyfriend was pictured out and about.... in other news I forgot that she had a haircut (about two months ago...) saw the pictures and pretty much freaked out. Brutal. I've now recovered.... although just barely.

..... on an unrelated point. Please don't tell me Baby Ts are back in style- no need..... ever.

Sarah Jessica Parker looking adorable

A photo of the amazing Sarah Jessica Parker from a conference in Taiwan on the 22nd looking AMAZING. I absolutely love her hair at the moment. So much better than the Sex and the City season 2-3 poker straight look.

BIG HAIR!!!!

So I am having SUCH hair boredom at the moment- it is brutal. I love my color, I love the cut (although won't lie wouldn't mind if it was a few inches longer!) but the way I'm styling it is just boring me to tears. I need big hair and I have just been too lazy to do it. So lazy in fact that I actually booked a blow dry for the day I leave for England so that I wouldn't have to do it myself upon my arrival.... I know SAD. I then considered that perhaps a plane ride wouldn't do even a great blow dry wonders so I set out to see if London had an equivalent of the Blo bars we have in North America. Now if you haven't been before- they are f*ing awesome and you have GOT to try it out. It takes 40 minutes max and for $50 you will legitimately receive the best blow dry of your life (I know I am promising a lot- but honestly, you will not be disappointed). If you haven't been then you need to check out their page here and set up a time to try, you will be in love.

Anyways... so I went to work looking for a suitable alternative in London and not only did I find one (and cheaper too! honestly who ever thinks London is expensive has clearly never lived in Toronto!) which I cannot WAIT to go to but it also had some GREAT styling tips which I cannot wait to try out. Check out their page here for tips and information. It's called Hershesons and they are honestly pretty much my new favorite blow dry location/ hair tip supplier and I have yet to go!

Yet another reason to look forward to moving to London....

Until then I will be experimenting with some big Brigitte Bardot hair myself.
